The Union Fire District of South Kingstown (UFD) is now accepting bids for purchase and
installation of a 100KW Caterpillar Diesel generator and corresponding transfer switch. This
project is being rebid as it was not awarded at the May 18th 2026 Wardens meeting due to code
work clarifications. The installation will be at the UFD training grounds located at 133 Asa Pond
Road, Wakefield, RI.
Bids must be received at the UFD offices located at 131 Asa Pond Road, Wakefield, RI or online
via bidnetdirect.com by 3:00PM on Friday, June 12, 2026, at which time they will be opened
publicly and read aloud. Paper bids must be sealed and marked “UFD Generator Bid” on the
envelope. All bidders must enclose all requested documents including proof of insurance
document(s) with their submitted bids. The bid may be awarded on Monday, June 15, 2026, at 7:00
PM at the UFD Board of Wardens meeting.
It is recommended that all bidders participate in a non-mandatory walkthrough at 1 PM – 145PM
June 9th at the UFD training grounds 133 Asa Pond Road, Wakefield, RI.

Specifications for new diesel generator/transfer package
Completely remove old units and install new Caterpillar D100GC 100KW diesel generator and
matching transfer switch. Bids should include any and all miscellaneous electrical equipment,
hardware, fees, and shipping and handling cost.
• All electrical, construction, and safety codes and requirements must be followed for the
installation of the generator and transfer switch
• The existing generator and transfer switch are to be removed and left of the site so the
UFD can sell these items. Diesel in existing unit to remain in the tank.
• Generator
o New Caterpillar D100GC generator with matching transfer switch to be installed
o 400 AMP service.
o 100KW to match existing unit.
o Three phase power.
o 120/208-volt 60 HZ.
o All existing wiring to remain in place as long as code compliance is met
o Existing electrical panel remaining in place
o The generator must be connected to the fire alarm system including programming.
o Annunciator cable must comply with CAT spec to be fed to the fire alarm panel
o Battery charging/maintaining is required and circuits must match CAT and code
specifications
o Emergency stop to match existing and be installed at the generator
o 100+ gal fuel tank under the Cat generator set.
o 50 gal of diesel needed for startup and testing
o Reuse the existing concrete pad.
• Transfer switch
o Must be compatible and match the generator setup
o Must be code compliant with all state and federal electrical code
o Current location of transfer switch will not meet code due to working space
o Current transfer switch and main fused disconnect to be removed
o Install new 400A service rated transfer switch, with 400A breaker built into it at
the old disconnect mount location.
o All new wiring and connection costs should be included
• Setup and testing after all trades are done with work.
• Weather protected enclosures suitable for RI.
• Two-year warranty to include parts and labor from startup date.
• No additional service contract required for CAT software or maintenance
• Price to include any anticipated permits to the state or town of South Kingstown.
• By state law the UFD requires payment of prevailing wage on any contract that exceeds
one thousand dollars ($1,000.00).

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION TO BIDDERS
Contractors Performance
Contractor shall furnish all necessary materials, services (electrical, plumbing,
crane, etc.), labor, tools, equipment and supplies to perform the required for this project.
Access to Work Area
Union Fire District personnel will identify project areas, storage areas and parking
to be utilized by the Contractor.
Equipment Safety
The Contractor shall be responsible for providing and for the placement of
barricades, tarps, plastic, flag tape and other safety/traffic control equipment
required to protect its employees, the public, surrounding areas, equipment,
vehicles and Town of South Kingstown personnel. Any company that has a history
or a high incidence of accidents may be disqualified if deemed necessary by the
Union Fire District.
Workmanship
Where not more specifically described in any or the various sections of these
specifications, workmanship shall conform to all of the methods of operations of
best standards and accepted practices of the trade and shall include all fabrication,
construction or completion. All work shall be performed by personnel skilled in their
respective lines of work and be certified or licensed as required by National, State,
or Local laws.
Cleaning
The Contractor shall keep the premises clean of all rubbish and debris generated
by the work involved and shall leave the premises neat and clean. All surplus
materials, rubbish and debris shall be disposed of by the Contractor and at the
contractor’s expense. The work area shall be cleaned at the end of each work day unless prior
approval has been granted.
Final Inspection and Acceptance
The Contractor will request a Union Fire District designee to conduct a site
inspection after the project is complete. Final project approval is contingent on the final
inspection by the UFD.
Property Damage
Contractor agrees to repair at contractor’s expense any damage that is caused to
UFD owned property by Contractor.
Labor Rates
Labor rate shall be based on prevailing wage and must follow all state of RI and Federal
regulations.
Work Hours
Regular work hours shall be 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday,
holidays excluded. Work will be permitted on Saturdays and Sundays if necessary.
Permits/Inspections
The Contractor will contact the Town of South Kingstown prior to this work for any permits or
inspections that are required.
Submittals
The Contractor shall provide the UFD with any drawings for review for approval prior to
installation.
